Initiative, funded through the European Union\u2019s \u201cGreen Experiment\u201d program, focuses on creating cutting-edge decontamination technology for stainless steel pipes contaminated by radioactive nuclides. With a project budget of \u20ac702,985 and a funding contribution of \u20ac500,000 from the European Union, the project aligns with Lithuania&#8217;s Ministry of Economy and Innovation\u2019s 2022\u20132030 Economic Transformation and Competitiveness Development Program.<\/b><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--wp--preset--color--base);\">FTD LT Cluster&#8217;s EXPO Group member UAB Aksonas, known for its expertise in mechanical equipment analysis, design, and manufacturing, aims to address a critical challenge in nuclear decommissioning and radioactive waste management through this project. The technology under development will decontaminate thousands of tons of stainless steel pipes from decommissioned nuclear plants, radioactive waste storage facilities, and other civil atomic infrastructures. By enabling the recycling of decontaminated steel back into the market, this technology represents a major advancement in sustainable industrial practices and resource recovery.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"text-align: var(--text-align); background-color: var(--wp--preset--color--base);\">The project has significant environmental and economic implications. Upon completion, the decontamination technology will be applicable to active nuclear plants, as well as decommissioned sites, uranium enrichment facilities, and radioactive waste storage centers\u2014critical facilities where stainless steel pipes become contaminated with radioactive nuclides over time.
